Riding fearlessly on the wave of grander ambitions, Japanese rock torchbearers ONE OK ROCK are all set to make their long-awaited return to Manila. Taka, Toru, Ryota, and Tomoya are finally coming back to the Philippines for ONE OK ROCK AMBITIONS ASIA TOUR 2018 Live in Manila, happening on January 29, 2018 at the Mall of Asia Arena—a spectacular show powered by PULP Live World to kick off the coming year!
A little over two years since ONE OK ROCK’s historic, sold-out first-ever show in the Philippines, the phenomenal quartet from Tokyo, Japan will once again perform for their highly dedicated Filipino fans as their trailblazing world tour in support of their latest album Ambitions, which was released in January of 2017, makes a stop in Manila.
Following up the band’s ground breaking 2015 album 35XXXV couldn’t have been an easy venture. With surefire hits like “Mighty Long Fall”, “Take Me To The Top”, “Cry Out”, and “Heartache”, 35XXXV was instrumental in making their music more accessible to a growing global audience as the first ONE OK ROCK album to have an all-English version. But ONE OK ROCK further transcends frontiers with Ambitions, which paved the way for the band to make bolder moves like bravely experimenting with their sound or signing with American major label Fueled By Ramen.
“I believe that it’s important to try and explore different things throughout our lives as musicians,” Taka Moriuchi previously told PULP Magazine in an exclusive interview following the release of Ambitions, which is their eighth album in their 12 years as a band. Taka described it as an album representing the different ambitions that they have as a group, saying that although it was pretty different from anything they put out in the past, it’s “the first album to really let the world know of the band ONE OK ROCK.”
Indeed, with great ambitions come greater risks, and taking on such risks requires a certain level of courage. With ONE OK ROCK keen on taking over the world with their music and making everyone remember them to be the best rock band to come out of Japan, they brave any uncertainty unfazed and undaunted, confident in their undeniable talent and consistency as musicians.
People who have seen the band in the flesh will agree with consensus that ONE OK ROCK are one of the best bands they’ve ever seen live—Taka remains in control of his voice all throughout while masterfully engaging their crowd; bassist Ryota and guitarist Toru can ramp it up onstage without botching their riffs; and drummer Tomoya keeps the rest of the band rocking hard without missing a beat.
