A day ahead of Lady Gaga’s highly anticipated release of Chromatica, Lady Gaga and Blackpink debuted their first collaboration, “Sour Candy”. The track was written by Gaga, along with other songwriters including Teddy Park.
Its audio video garnered 21.8 million views on YouTube in the first 24 hours of its release, breaking the record for an all-female collaboration on the video platform. In another all-female record, the track makes the biggest debut for a song by a girl group in Spotify history, and reached No. 1 on iTunes in 52 countries by the afternoon of its release, according to Chart Data.
The record-shattering reception to Gaga’s collaboration with Blackpink further solidifies Gaga’s vision of celebrating the power of women through their work. Gaga talked about being excited about working with Blackpink and how they would interpret the song in Korean. In an interview with TV Groove, Gaga adds, “I wanted to celebrate them because they love powerful women like us, and they also wanted to celebrate me, and we had a great time together with this song.”
