It’s not every day that you get to hear about a Filipino music composer for film, TV, and games. Hollywood Music in Media nominee and LA-based Filipino film music composer, Jaimie Pangan, has released an album for the soundtrack of the film The Wild Ones.
The tracks were composed for the short film directed by her fellow Filipino creative, John Geronilla, in Los Angeles, California. It is a story about Camila and Rico, who ride their bikes around the San Fernando Valley in search of their missing friend Nicole. The cast for the film includes Kelli Anderson, Bobby Leo Garcia, Stephanie Hoston, Spencer Valenzuela, Rose Portillo, and Jessica Nielson (who appeared in the popular horror TV series American Horror Story).
According to an interview with Indieactivity, Jaimie got the inspiration for the music based on the soundtrack of the popular game The Last of Us. The composer composed 12 minutes of music in a week. Elements of the tracks involve synths, guitar (played by USC alumnus Alvaro Balvin Benavides), and lovely solo cello lines by professional LA-based cellist Katt Newlon. After the recording, the final music was mixed by Alek Palmersmith.
The album comprises of tracks that highlight the mysterious nature of Nicole’s disappearance and the emotional roller coaster the main characters go through as they search for their friend. It has ambient, electronic, Spanish, and Western influences, along with a melody that encapsulates the whole film’s story.
The Wild Ones is now available for streaming in all major music streaming platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more.
