Former The X-Factor contender Jeff Gutt debuted as the new vocalist of Stone Temple Pilots last November 14that the Troubadour in Los Angeles.
The long-time rock group has also released a brand new single, the first to feature the new voice of the band. Listen to “Meadow”:
This ends the speculation over who was going to succeed Stone Temple Pilots’ former vocalists—the late Scott Weiland fronted the band since its formation up until he was fired in 2013; Chester Bennington, who passed away last July, stepped in to do vocal duties for the band that year but eventually left in 2015 to focus on Linkin Park.
It was early in 2016 when the band launched their search for a new vocalist. Thousands have auditioned to join the band. Now, it’s official that Jeff Gutt will be joining founding members Dean DeLeo (guitar), Robert DeLeo (bass), and Eric Kretz (drums).
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Dean DeLeo revealed that “Jeff wasn’t even part of the singer submissions,” adding that his brother Robert had been in Michigan when somebody approached him and told him to check out a local guy—Jeff Gutt.
“It’s a very strange feeling, but at the same time I’m blessed and very honored. It’s like joining the Led Zeppelin of my generation. I feel like I’m living in a movie,” Jeff tells The Daily Tribune, saying that he doesn’t feel the pressure as he was studying Scott when he came into singing and learning from him when it came to his craft.
Jeff’s first album with Stone Temple Pilots is due out in 2018 and the band will be touring following its release.
