Dragonforce and their epic PULP Summer Slam comeback
DRAGONFORCE is a power metal band from London, England, famous for their high speed guitar solos, fantasy-themed lyrics, and overall retro videogame-influenced sound. Over the course of their careers, which started back in 1999, the band has been called “Nintendo Metal,” “Bon Jovi on Speed,” and “Journey Meets Slayer,” among other things. The band has released over six full-length albums, one live album, and one live DVD.
The band currently consists of vocalist Marc Hudson, guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman, bassist Frédéric Leclercq, keyboardist Vadim Pruzhanov, and drummer Gee Anzalone.
Their track “Through the Fire and Flames,” which is the opener for their third album Inhuman Rampage, is inarguably the band’s most successful song to date. Certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America with over 1.1 million copies sold, the song peaked at #86 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #61 on the Canadian Hot 100. The song experienced renewed popularity back in March of 2005, thanks to a cover version that was uploaded on Youtube that went viral. Because of this, the song went up to #13 on the Rock Songs chart. The track was also featured in the video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock as an unlockable song. Many fans of the video game consider it the most difficult song on the video game.
In 2006, they were Terrorizer’s Best Band, Best Musician (guitarist Herman Li), and Best Live Act. In 2007, they were Guitar World’s Best New Talent and Best Metal Band. In 2009, their track “Heroes of Our Time” from the album Ultra Beatdown was nominated for a Grammy Award for “Best Metal Performance.”
The band is no stranger to music festivals. Among others, they’ve played at Australia’s Soundwave, America’s Mayhem Festival, and England’s Download Festival.Their performance at PULP Summer Slam XVII: Redemption will mark their second time visiting in the country. Their first time back in 2013 was also at PULP Summer Slam.
